US 1896-O Silver One Dollar Coin - A US silver one dollar coin struck at the New Orleans Mint, dated 1896. The obverse features the legend E PLURIBUS UNUM above the date 1896, with thirteen stars along the periphery. A headband is inscribed character by character with LIBERTY. The reverse bears the legend UNITED STATES OF AMERICA and the denomination ONE DOLLAR, with the motto In God we trust inscribed in Gothic script. A single letter O is impressed on the reverse, centered below the laurel wreath. The coin is composed of silver and copper. It is housed in a white cardboard 2x2 flip with handwritten notations in blue ink reading 1896-O on one side and DURCO on the reverse. (Reference: KM# 110). The coin displays moderate circulation wear on the relief high points, particularly on the hair above the ear and the breast feathers (Photos 1 and 2). Numerous contact marks and small surface scratches are visible in the fields. A prominent linear scratch is present across the eye of the portrait on the obverse (Photo 1). The coin retains muted luster with very light peripheral toning. The cardboard holder shows minor edge wear and standard staple marks.
