US 1897-O Morgan Silver Dollar - A US 1897-O Morgan silver dollar struck at the New Orleans Mint. The coin is composed of 90% silver and 10% copper. The obverse displays the Morgan design and the date 1897. The reverse includes the O mint mark positioned above the denomination. The specimen is contained within a white cardboard 2x2 flip featuring handwritten blue ink inscriptions reading 1897-O and VF. The 1897-O is a common date in circulated grades but becomes significantly scarcer in higher mint states. The coin exhibits moderate wear on the high points of the design (photo 1 and 2). Both the obverse and reverse show natural dark grey and golden-brown peripheral toning. Several surface contact marks and light scratches are visible on the fields and devices consistent with a circulated grade (photos 1 and 2). The flip housing is hand-marked VF.
