Bidspirit auction | US 1890-O Morgan Silver Dollar

US 1890-O Morgan Silver Dollar - A US 1890-O Morgan silver dollar. The obverse bears the date 1890 and the motto E PLURIBUS UNUM with thirteen stars, while a tiara is inscribed with the word LIBERTY. The reverse features the legends UNITED STATES OF AMERICA and ONE DOLLAR, along with the motto In God we trust in Gothic script. A single impressed O mint mark for the New Orleans Mint is visible above the letters DO of DOLLAR (photo 3). The coin is struck in 90% silver, containing approximately 0.7734 oz of pure silver. It is presented in a white cardboard 2x2 holder with a handwritten blue ink label reading 1890-O (photo 1). The 1890-O is a common date within the Morgan series, though its value increases in higher uncirculated grades. The coin exhibits original mint luster consistent with an uncirculated or near-uncirculated state, but displays significant contact and bag marks. Heavy clusters of marks are visible on the obverse cheek and in the surrounding fields (photo 2). Scattered surface scuffs and bag marks are present across the reverse design (photo 4). Dark grey and brownish toning is evident along the rims and within the recessed areas of the design elements on both sides (photos 2 and 4). No evidence of cleaning is visually apparent.
