1885 NL Silver 10 Cents Coin, William III - This silver 10-cent coin from the Netherlands was struck in 1885 during the reign of King William III. The obverse features a right-facing profile of the monarch surrounded by the legend WILLEM III KONING DER NED. G. H. V. L. along the rim. The reverse displays the denomination 10 CENTS and the date 1885 centered within a circular oak wreath. Small marks are visible on the reverse flanking the date: a sword to the left and a caduceus to the right. The coin is presented in a square white cardboard 2x2 flip with a clear circular window. The flip bears several handwritten notations in black ink: 1885 in the top left corner, AU+ and .64 silver in the top right, 14.- on the center right, and William III Nether. 10 CENTS along the bottom edge. Both sides of the coin show heavy dark toning and patches of dark oxidation (photos 2 and 3). Wear is visible on the high relief points, specifically the hair and beard on the obverse (photo 2) and the definition of the oak leaves in the wreath on the reverse (photo 3). Minor contact marks and surface nicks are scattered throughout the obverse fields (photo 2). The cardboard flip exhibits minor scuffing and small fibers caught on the surface (photo 1).
