US 1897-O Morgan Silver Dollar - This US currency coin is a silver dollar dated 1897. The obverse features a profile of Liberty facing left, wearing a cap inscribed LIBERTY, surrounded by the motto E PLURIBUS UNUM, thirteen stars, and the date 1897. The reverse displays an eagle with spread wings holding an olive branch and arrows, partially enclosed by a wreath, with the inscriptions UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, IN God we trust, and ONE DOLLAR. An impressed circular mark resembling the letter O is situated on the reverse, centered between the wreath and the letters DO in DOLLAR, identifying the New Orleans Mint. The coin is struck in a 90 percent silver alloy. Weight: 0.843 ozt. The coin exhibits significant wear from circulation. The high points of the hair on the obverse and the eagle's breast feathers on the reverse show flattening and loss of detail (photos 1 and 3). Dark toning is present in the recessed areas of the design and lettering (photo 2). Multiple small surface scratches and contact marks are visible across both faces. The rim remains mostly intact with typical minor wear for a circulated specimen.
