US 1898-S Morgan Silver Dollar - A US silver dollar of the Morgan design type. The obverse depicts a left-facing profile wearing a Phrygian cap with the date 1898 at the base. The reverse features a heraldic eagle clutching an olive branch and arrows. A relief mint mark consisting of the character S is positioned on the reverse, centered above the characters D and O of the word DOLLAR (photo 2). The coin is struck in 90% silver and 10% copper. Weight: 0.859 ozt. The coin exhibits moderate circulation wear on the high points of the design, particularly the hair above Liberty's ear and the eagle's breast feathers (photo 1, 3). Significant surface contact marks, or bag marks, and fine hairline scratches are present across the fields and raised surfaces of both sides (photo 1, 3). Dark gray and iridescent golden toning is visible around the peripheral edges of the obverse and reverse (photo 1, 3). The reeded edge appears intact without significant rim damage.
