Ivanhoe Gold-Filled Child's Hinged Bangle Bracelet with Classical Cameo - An early 20th-century child's or baby's hinged bangle bracelet crafted from gold-filled metal. The centerpiece features a rectangular carved cameo, likely shell, depicting a male bust in classical profile. The cameo is held in a simple bezel setting and is flanked by shoulders decorated with a pierced honeycomb or openwork filigree pattern. The bracelet utilizes a bypass or crossover design with a hinged opening mechanism powered by an internal spring. The interior of the hinge mechanism contains impressed marks; the upper line reads IVANHOE in block capital letters, while the lower line reads PAT DEC 8 08. These marks indicate the piece was manufactured by the D.F. Briggs Company under their Ivanhoe brand, referencing a patent date of December 8, 1908. Interior diameter measures approximately 1.75 inches; exterior width at the widest point is approximately 2.25 inches. The bracelet is in fair condition, showing significant signs of age and wear. The metal surfaces exhibit widespread tarnish and oxidation, with noticeable loss to the gold-filled finish particularly on the interior surfaces and near the hinge (photo 6). The carved cameo has a distinct chip on the upper right edge and general softening of the carved details from wear (photo 2, photo 3). The internal steel coil spring within the hinge shows heavy surface rust and corrosion (photo 6, photo 8). The main hoop of the bangle displays surface scratches and darkening of the metal where the gold layer has thinned (photo 4, photo 5).
