Bidspirit auction | A Pair of Victorian Mother-of-Pearl

A Pair of Victorian Mother-of-Pearl and Silver-Toned Metal Opera Glasses with Original Fitted Case - A pair of antique opera glasses featuring barrels constructed from faceted panels of iridescent mother-of-pearl. The frame is composed of silver-toned metal, featuring milled decorative borders around both the objective lenses and the eyepieces. The central focusing wheel and both eyepieces are similarly inlaid with circular discs of iridescent mother-of-pearl. No maker marks, hallmarks, or country-of-origin stamps are visible on the metalwork or the shell panels. The item is accompanied by its original form-fitted, hard-sided carrying case, which has a black textured exterior and a red fabric interior lining with a brass-toned metal clasp. Width: approximately 4 inches across the objective lenses. Height: approximately 2.25 inches. The opera glasses are in good antique condition. The faceted mother-of-pearl panels on the barrels and the inlays on the eyepieces and focusing wheel appear intact and securely seated with no visible chips or missing sections (photo 1, photo 6). The silver-toned metal exhibits light surface wear and minor tarnish consistent with age (photo 4, photo 5). The mechanical focusing mechanism appears functional. The accompanying case is in poor condition, showing significant peeling and loss of the black exterior covering (photo 3) and frayed edges to the interior red fabric lining (photo 2). The brass-toned metal clasp remains present and functional (photo 8).
