Early 19th-Century Copper-Alloy Flat Clothing Button with Floral Motif - A circular copper-alloy flat clothing button from the early 19th century. The obverse features a relief-molded design of a stylized floral sprig, consisting of a single bud and a large, curved, serrated leaf. The reverse is fitted with a soldered wire loop shank. The reverse features a stamped circular backmark positioned between two concentric lines. The mark includes a laurel wreath pattern on the left and stamped characters on the right reading TREBLE GILT ORANGE COLOUR. The button is composed of brass and exhibits a dark brown and gold-toned patina. Across the widest point, the diameter measures 1 inch (photo 2). The button exhibits heavy surface scratching and pitting across the obverse (photos 1 and 3) and reverse (photo 4). A dark brown patina from oxidation is present throughout (photos 3 and 4). There is a complete loss of the original gilded luster mentioned in the backmark (photos 1 and 3). The wire loop shank is intact but shows wear and significant oxidation consistent with the rest of the piece (photo 4).
