1931 B Switzerland Silver 2 Francs Coin - A 1931 Switzerland silver 2 Francs coin produced at the Bern mint. The obverse features the standing figure of Helvetia facing right, holding a spear and resting her hand on a shield bearing the Swiss cross, surrounded by twenty-two stars representing the Swiss cantons. The base bears the inscription HELVETIA with the artist name A. BOVY and engraver mark INC. visible below the ground line. The reverse displays the denomination 2 Fr. and the date 1931 centered within a wreath of oak and alpine roses. A B mint mark for Bern is located at the bottom center of the reverse. The coin is struck in .835 fineness silver. The item is housed in a white cardboard and plastic flip holder. The holder features several handwritten notations in black ink: 1931 in the top left corner, XF AV above 835 Silver in the top right, and 2 FRANK Swis along the bottom edge. A price or inventory notation of 45:- with a crossed-out mark above it is written on the right side of the flip. The Standing Helvetia design has been a staple of Swiss coinage since the late 19th century. The coin exhibits moderate circulation wear consistent with an Extremely Fine (XF) grade, with softening visible on the high relief areas of Helvetia's robes and the leaves within the wreath (photos 1 and 2). Significant dark toning and natural patina are present across both faces, most notably in the fields and around the lettering on the reverse (photo 2). Numerous small contact marks and fine hairlines are visible in the fields under magnification. The cardboard flip shows minor handling wear and age-related yellowing.
