1878 United States Morgan Silver Dollar - An 1878 United States Morgan silver dollar. The obverse features the left-facing profile of Liberty wearing a cap adorned with wheat and cotton, with the headband inscribed LIBERTY. The peripheral text reads E PLURIBUS UNUM above the date 1878. The reverse depicts a heraldic eagle with outspread wings, arrows, and an olive branch within a laurel wreath. Text on the reverse reads UNITED STATES OF AMERICA and ONE DOLLAR, with the motto In God we trust in Gothic script positioned above the eagle. The absence of a mint mark indicates production at the Philadelphia Mint. The coin is shown on a digital scale displaying a weight reading. Weight: 0.860 ozt. The coin displays significant dark toning and oxidation concentrated around the rims on both the obverse (photo 1) and reverse (photo 2). Numerous surface scratches and bag marks are visible, most notably on Liberty's cheek and the surrounding fields of the obverse (photo 1). Light wear is evident on the high points of the design.
