Bidspirit auction | Large Vintage Southwestern Style Silver
Large Vintage Southwestern Style Silver Toned Turquoise and Coral Quail Belt Buckle - A vintage Southwestern style belt buckle featuring a naturalistic bird motif. The oval buckle plate is crafted from silver-toned metal and features a raised, textured figure of a quail with a characteristic head plume. The composition includes hand-soldered wirework scrolls surrounding two bezel-set stones. One large turquoise cabochon with a visible brown matrix and one smaller red coral cabochon are each set within sawtooth bezels. The reverse features a standard metal loop and prong attachment. A small, impressed mark is visible on the reverse side at the base of the prong; however, the characters are not legible as a name or word. No metal purity marks, such as 925 or Sterling, are present, though the construction and oxidation are consistent with silver jewelry of this period. Width: 3 inches Height: 2.5 inches. The item shows overall surface wear and significant tarnish consistent with age (Photo 1, 4). There is prominent green oxidation and dark spotting visible on the reverse side of the plate (Photo 2). A small gap or minor loss is visible at the lower edge of the turquoise stone where it meets the sawtooth bezel (Photo 5). The wirework and quail figure appear securely attached, and the mechanical findings are intact and functional. Testing is recommended to confirm the silver purity of the metal.
