1886 Switzerland 2 Francs Silver Coin - This Swiss 2 Francs silver coin is dated 1886. The obverse displays a standing figure of Helvetia, personifying the Swiss Confederation, draped in robes and holding a spear in her right hand while her left hand rests upon a shield bearing the Swiss cross. The figure is encircled by twenty-two stars. The word HELVETIA is struck in relief along the base of the design. The characters A. BOVY are visible in smaller relief at the lower left, and the characters INC. are visible at the lower right. The reverse of the coin features the denomination 2 Fr. above the year 1886, enclosed by a wreath of oak and alpine flora branches tied with a ribbon. An uppercase letter B is struck at the bottom center, indicating the Bern mint. The coin shows signs of moderate to heavy circulation. Significant wear and flattening are evident on the high points of the design, particularly on the figure of Helvetia, the spear, and the shield (Photo 1), as well as the leaves of the wreath (Photo 2). Numerous fine surface scratches and small contact marks are visible across the fields and raised elements on both the obverse and reverse (Photo 1, 2). Dark toning is present in the recessed areas surrounding the inscriptions and within the wreath (Photo 2). No major rim dents or deep gouges are observed.
