1889 United States Morgan Silver Dollar - A United States silver dollar coin composed of 90 percent silver and 10 percent copper. The obverse features the left-facing profile of Liberty, her cap adorned with wheat stalks and cotton bolls, with the headband inscribed LIBERTY. The perimeter bears the motto E PLURIBUS UNUM and the date 1889 at the base. The reverse shows a heraldic eagle with outstretched wings clutching arrows and an olive branch, encircled by a laurel wreath. It is inscribed UNITED STATES OF AMERICA and ONE DOLLAR, with the motto In God we trust in Gothic script above the eagle. The lack of a mint mark on the reverse above the DO in DOLLAR indicates production at the Philadelphia Mint. Weight: 0.859 ozt. The coin is in circulated condition with visible wear to the design elements. On the obverse, there is softening of detail on the high points of Liberty’s hair and the cotton bolls, as well as several surface scratches and minor contact marks on the cheek and in the fields (photo 1). The reverse shows wear on the eagle's breast feathers and the tips of the wings (photo 2). Natural dark toning is present along the outer edges of both the obverse and reverse (photo 1, 2).
