Bidspirit auction | A Three-Piece United States Bicentennial
A Three-Piece United States Bicentennial Silver Proof Set - A three-piece United States Bicentennial Silver Proof Set struck by the United States Mint to commemorate the nation's 200th anniversary. The set contains a Washington quarter, a Kennedy half dollar, and an Eisenhower dollar, all dual-dated 1776-1976 and struck in 40% silver. Each coin features a mirror-like proof finish with frosted relief and bears a small impressed S mint mark on the obverse indicating production at the San Francisco Mint. The coins display unique bicentennial reverse designs: a colonial drummer on the quarter, Independence Hall on the half dollar, and the Liberty Bell superimposed over the moon on the dollar. The coins are housed in individual protective plastic capsules within a blue textured cardstock folder decorated with a circular arrangement of thirteen gold-leaf stars. This folder is presented in a red fabric-covered folding case with an integrated red, white, and blue diagonal ribbon and gold-toned script reading United States Bicentennial Silver Proof Set. The interior includes a printed white paper insert titled U.S. Mint's Bicentennial Silver Proof Set which details the designer initials JLA, SGH, and DRW found on each coin's reverse. The coins exhibit bright, mirror-like surfaces with no visible contact marks or haze (photo 2). The red presentation case shows minor wear to the exterior edges and light creasing to the fabric-covered hinge (photo 1). The interior blue folder and printed certificate are well-preserved with no visible stains or tears (photos 4 and 5).
