1883 US Morgan Silver Dollar - A US one dollar silver coin, 1883. This coin is a Morgan dollar type struck at the Philadelphia Mint. The obverse is inscribed E PLURIBUS UNUM and LIBERTY with the date 1883. The reverse bears the inscriptions UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, In God we trust in Gothic script, and ONE DOLLAR. The piece features a reeded edge and lacks a mint mark. Metal composition is 90 percent silver and 10 percent copper. Weight: 0.856 ozt. The coin shows moderate wear on the high relief areas of the design. Smoothing is visible on the hair detail and cotton blossoms on the obverse (photo 1). A vertical contact mark is present on the neck of the obverse portrait (photo 1). The reverse shows significant smoothing to the eagle breast feathers (photo 2). Distributed contact marks and small scratches are present across the fields on both sides. Small rim nicks are visible on the obverse and reverse edges (photo 1, photo 2). The item is in circulated condition, approximately Very Fine.
