1874 United States Seated Liberty Silver Half Dollar with Arrows - This United States silver coin is a Seated Liberty half dollar dated 1874. The obverse features a figure of Liberty seated on a rock, holding a staff topped with a Phrygian cap in one hand and resting the other on a shield. The date 1874 is positioned at the bottom, flanked by two horizontal arrowheads pointing outward. Thirteen stars are arranged around the upper periphery. The reverse depicts a heraldic eagle with outstretched wings and a shield on its breast, clutching an olive branch and arrows in its talons. A scroll is draped above the eagle, though the motto within is largely illegible due to circulation wear. The peripheral inscriptions read UNITED STATES OF AMERICA and HALF DOL. at the base. No mint mark is visible on the reverse below the eagle, indicating Philadelphia Mint production. The coin is composed of 90 percent silver. Weight: 0.386 ozt. The coin is in heavily circulated condition with significant wear across all high points. On the obverse, the facial features and drapery of Liberty are flattened, and the stars show substantial smoothing (photo 1). The reverse shows extensive wear to the eagle's feathers, the shield, and the legend, with some letters appearing faint (photo 2). Numerous small contact marks, nicks, and fine surface scratches are visible throughout the fields and along the rim (photos 1 and 2). The surfaces exhibit a dark, mottled aged patina consistent with long-term circulation.
