American WWI Enameled Blue Star Service Flag Desktop Picture Frame - A miniature World War I era American patriotic desktop picture frame. The rectangular frame is constructed of gold-toned metal featuring a field of translucent red guilloché enamel over an engine-turned ground. A central rectangular panel of opaque white enamel is decorated with a small blue five-pointed enamel star above an oval aperture for a photograph. The frame retains its removable gold-toned oval bezel. The reverse is fitted with a folding wire easel stand. The back plate is impressed with the marks PATENTED JAN.15.1918, PATENTED NOV.6.1917, and MFD. UNDER EXCLUSIVE LICENSE. An impressed five-pointed star and an oval outline are also visible on the verso. Width: 1.5 inches Height: 2.25 inches. There is a significant area of enamel loss and chipping at the lower right corner (photo 1, 4, 7). Light surface scratches are visible on the red enamel (photo 4). The central oval bezel is detached from the frame body (photo 6, 7). The gold-toned metal on the reverse shows tarnish and surface oxidation (photo 3, 5).
