Bidspirit auction | A Collection of Five Sterling

A Collection of Five Sterling Silver Thimbles Including Victorian Repousse and Filigree Examples - An assortment of five sterling silver thimbles featuring a variety of decorative techniques and forms. The collection includes an elongated thimble with intricate filigree openwork and a smooth, unengraved oval reserve. A Victorian-style example is decorated with floral repousse featuring stylized chrysanthemum or sunburst patterns. Three additional thimbles feature traditional honeycomb dimpling, with one displaying a foliate scroll band at the base. One thimble with floral decoration bears a series of impressed marks on the base band: the initials JS in a cartouche, an anchor symbol, a lion passant, and a lowercase letter u in a clipped-corner shield. The filigree example is marked on the interior with an impressed capital letter H within a shield and the word STERLING. A third thimble is marked on the base band with the word STERLING, a circular device containing a letter W with a horizontal arrow, and an engraved name reading WALKER above a numeral 9. A fourth thimble contains an interior identification number 92.69 written in white ink. Height: 0.625 inches to 1 inch Weight: 9.64 dwt. The set exhibits a dark patina and surface tarnish throughout, most notably in the recessed areas of the filigree and repousse ornamentation (photo 1). Minor out-of-round deformation is visible on the base rims of several pieces (photo 3). One thimble bears a white ink inventory marking 92.69 on the interior (photo 4). Normal surface wear and light smoothing to the dimpled patterns are consistent with historical use.
