A Group of National Cast Brass Post Office Box Doors Dated 1955 - A group of cast brass post office box doors produced by National. Each door features a decorative Greek key border surrounding a central combination lock. The lock dial is set within a raised starburst motif and is indexed with the letters A through H. A rectangular glass window is situated to the side of the dial, containing box identification numbers hand-painted in yellow with red shadowing. Visible numbers include 337, 351, 381, 385, 334, and 156. The interior side of the doors features a vertically cast mark in block letters reading NATIONAL 1945. The brass displays an aged patina with natural darkening and surface texture. The group exhibits an overall aged patina with areas of surface oxidation and darkening consistent with cast brass (Photos 1, 2, and 4). There is visible wear and minor losses to the hand-painted numerals on the glass identification panes (Photos 1 and 5). Dust, debris, and light surface pitting are present within the recessed ornamental details (Photos 3 and 5). One door displays a bent or partially detached outer mounting frame (Photo 1).
