Bidspirit auction | American Victorian Era Hand-Stitched Mixed

American Victorian Era Hand-Stitched Mixed Fabric Crazy Quilt - A large American Victorian-era crazy quilt constructed from a patchwork of multi-colored fabric scraps including silk, velvet, wool, and cotton. The irregular pieces are joined with a wide array of decorative hand-embroidered stitches in contrasting threads, featuring motifs such as feather, herringbone, and star-burst designs. The quilt is finished with white yarn ties throughout to secure the interior batting. The reverse and the bound edges are finished in a woven cotton fabric featuring a red, blue, and black plaid pattern. No maker labels, signatures, or country-of-origin marks are visible. 78 inches by 79 inches. The quilt exhibits wear consistent with its age and use. Several delicate silk and velvet panels show significant shattering, fraying, and material loss (photos 1, 2). Scattered small holes and areas of thinning are present throughout various fabric sections. Some sections of the decorative embroidery are loose or missing. The plaid cotton backing shows light surface soiling and age-related fading (photo 4).
