Antique American Hand Pieced Cotton Patchwork Star Quilt Top - A hand-pieced antique patchwork quilt featuring a star-in-block motif. The design consists of multiple square blocks, each centered with an eight-pointed star. The star points are constructed from a variety of scrap cotton fabrics, including various printed calicos, stripes, and solid colors in shades of blue, pink, tan, and green. The blocks are separated by a blue and white gingham checked cotton sashing. The construction appears to be entirely hand-stitched. There are no visible maker marks, signatures, or labels on the piece. Across the widest point: 71 inches Length: 81 inches. The quilt is in poor, as-is condition with significant structural damage and fabric degradation throughout. There is extensive fraying and disintegration along all edges, with large sections of fabric missing and loose threads (photo 1, photo 2, photo 4). Numerous individual patches within the star blocks have worn through or are completely lost, exposing the interior structure (photo 2, photo 3, photo 6). Several open seams and small holes are visible throughout the body of the quilt (photo 3, photo 6). There is noticeable staining and brown foxing on many of the lighter fabric patches (photo 5, photo 6). The textile is extremely fragile and is suitable for study or salvage.
