Bidspirit auction | Antique Gilt Spelter Figural Bear

Antique Gilt Spelter Figural Bear Master Salt with Glass Liner - This figural master salt is composed of a cast metal base with a gold-toned finish over a white metal alloy, likely spelter. The design features a standing bear with one paw leaning against the rim of a small bowl on a pedestal. The bowl accommodates a removable, thick-walled clear glass liner with a circular, stepped interior profile. The piece is set on an oval base textured to resemble naturalistic ground with foliate scroll motifs. The underside is hollow with two small circular vent holes and shows no visible maker marks, signatures, or labels. The base measures approximately 2.75 inches in length, and the total height is approximately 2.25 inches. The item displays significant surface wear to the gold-toned finish, with major loss on the high points of the bear's fur, the bowl rim, and the textured base, revealing the grey base metal underneath (photos 1, 2). There is minor oxidation and dust buildup in the recessed areas of the casting (photo 2). The glass liner is in good condition with no visible chips or cracks (photo 3).
