US Army WWII M2 Chemical Mortar Sight by C A CO - This is a World War II era US Army M2 chemical mortar sight constructed of heavy cast and machined brass. The instrument served as fire control equipment for the 4.2 inch chemical mortar. It features an elevation quadrant with graduated scales and a top mounted windage and deflection sight utilizing a notched V and blade system. A central frame houses an integrated spirit level used to ensure the mortar was properly leveled. A brass identification plaque is riveted to the main arm and is stamped with the following text: CHEMICAL MORTAR SIGHT, M II, SERIAL NO. 294 LOT C 190-2, C A CO, and B M. The manufacturer name C A CO is clearly readable. The elevation arc is engraved with numerical graduations including 800 and 1000. The deflection scale on the upper sight plate is marked L 100, 0, and 100 R. The instrument features several knurled adjustment knobs and a threaded adjustment screw for the upper sight blade. Based on the ruler visible in the photograph, the instrument measures approximately 5.25 inches in length and stands approximately 4 inches high. The item is in good vintage condition with a heavy, aged natural brass patina and scattered areas of green oxidation or verdigris visible across the frame (photo 1 and 2). The brass surfaces show minor surface scratches, small pits, and typical wear consistent with military field use (photo 3). The spirit level glass vial is intact, clear, and functional (photo 4 and 6). Mechanical adjustment knobs and screws are present, though some screw heads show slot wear and oxidation (photo 3 and 4). All markings on the identification plate and graduated scales remain clear and legible (photo 2 and 3).
