Vintage Skookum Bully Good Indian Character Doll with Original Box and Papoose - This American-made character doll features a composition head with stationary, side-glancing painted eyes and a black mohair wig styled in braids. The doll is dressed in original clothing consisting of a blue felt blanket-style tunic with red and white borders, cinched at the waist with a green cord and a copper-toned bead. It wears red cotton pants decorated with a multicolored star pattern in yellow, green, and white. A separate papoose accessory is included, wrapped in beige cheesecloth with orange tape ribbons. Both molded brown plastic feet are embossed on the soles with a circular mark reading TRADE MARK REG. SKOOKUM BULLY GOOD INDIAN PATENTED U.S.A. The doll is accompanied by its original cardboard box. One end of the lid features a printed red and black label reading SKOOKUM (BULLY GOOD) The Great Indian Character Doll Patented TRADE MARK REGISTERED No. 4038, accompanied by a small graphic of figures and a tipi. The sides of the box are decorated with a repeating red, black, and tan geometric chevron pattern. Length: approximately 12.25 inches. The doll face exhibits significant condition issues with extensive paint loss, surface crazing, and discoloration throughout the cheeks, forehead, and nose (photo 3). The mohair wig is slightly matted. The clothing shows minor fraying at the edges and accumulated dust. The original cardboard box is in poor condition, showing severe structural damage including large tears, crushing, missing sections of cardboard along the sides, and visible water staining (photos 9, 10, 11). Remnants of old adhesive tape are present on the box from prior repair attempts.
