Vintage Hires Root Beer Advertising Tin Thermometer Sign - An American pressed metal advertising thermometer for Hires Root Beer. The sign is vertically oriented with crimped edges and a white painted finish. The top portion features the Hires logo in red block letters with blue outlines, positioned above the slogan Refreshes RIGHT! in blue script and block lettering. A detailed illustration of a Hires root beer bottle is located at the bottom right against a stippled blue background. The bottle label reads Hires SINCE 1876 ROOT BEER WITH ROOTS BARK & HERBS. The thermometer features a dual-sided Fahrenheit scale ranging from -50 to 120. A glass tube containing red liquid is mounted to the center. At the base of the left scale is a printed mark reading MADE IN U. S. A. BN-16. The reverse side is finished in gray and features an attached rectangular wooden mounting spacer. The sign exhibits significant surface wear consistent with age and outdoor exposure. The front face shows moderate-to-heavy rust along the top and bottom margins and around the mounting holes (photo 1). Numerous scuffs, scratches, and chips in the paint are visible, particularly on the Hires logo (photo 3) and the blue stippled area (photo 2). The reverse side shows heavy oxidation and widespread surface rust (photo 5). Several spots of white house paint splatter are present on the back (photo 6). The glass thermometer tube is intact and functional.
