An Assortment of Antique Hazard Powder Co. and DuPont Gunpowder Tins - A collection of antique American metal gunpowder containers, including flat-sided flasks and a small cylindrical canister. The flat-sided flasks are finished in red paint and bear circular paper labels for the Hazard Powder Co. One flask features a central illustrated label reading DUCK SHOOTING GUNPOWDER above Hazardville Con. and HAZARD POWDER CO., with a secondary rectangular label on the reverse side printed DUCK SHOOTING - No. 3 GRAIN. A second flask is printed with the label SEA SHOOTING GUNPOWDER featuring a central figure of a hunter, designated F G grade, and marked Hazardville Con. and HAZARD POWDER CO. The third flask bears an illustrated label for KENTUCKY RIFLE GUNPOWDER depicting a frontiersman with a rifle and hound, marked FF G and HAZARD POWDER CO. Hazardville Con. The small cylindrical canister retains portions of a green paper label with the printed name DUPONT and the words RIFLE POWDER. Hazard flask height: 6 inches Hazard flask width: 3.75 inches Cylindrical canister height: 3.5 inches Cylindrical canister diameter: 2 inches. Significant paint loss and surface oxidation are visible across the red metal bodies of the flasks (photo 1). The Duck Shooting label exhibits approximately 30 percent loss to the paper and heavy darkening (photo 4). The Sea Shooting label shows moderate surface abrasions and staining (photo 3). The Kentucky Rifle label is the most complete, though it displays minor foxing and edge wear (photo 2). The cylindrical canister displays heavy overall corrosion, surface rust, and verdigris, with substantial fragmentation to the green paper label (photos 5, 6). Oxidation and pitting are present on all metal spouts and caps.
