A Trio of Vintage Advertising Items Including Matinee Cigars Display Box, Fun-To-Wash Washing Powder, and Red Turkey Coffee Tin - This collection consists of three pieces of early to mid-20th-century commercial advertising ephemera. The largest item is a wooden counter display box for Matinee Cigars. The interior of the hinged lid features a lithographed paper label printed by American Label Co. 112 Fulton St. N.Y. which reads Matinee CIGARS five for 10 Cents. Made from HAVANA TOBACCO. The front edge of the box has a decorative paper strip repeating the brand name and the phrase A DELICIOUS SMOKE. The exterior wood lid and side panels are stenciled in black ink with MATINEE CIGARS. HAND-MADE 5 - 4 - 10. An adhesive label on the base and a corresponding ink stamp identify it as originating from Factory No. 598 9th District, State of PA. A partial green federal tax stamp is adhered to the lid and side. The second item is a cardboard product package for Fun-To-Wash Washing Powder manufactured by The Hygienic Laboratories Inc. Buffalo, N.Y. The front and back feature a caricature of a woman in a red polka-dot headwrap and blouse. The side panel displays a logo for THE H-L INC. and a retail price of 25 CENTS. The third item is a lithographed metal tin for Red Turkey Brand Coffee packed by J. B. Maltby, Inc. Corning, N.Y. The tin features a central illustration of a turkey surrounded by decorative gold-tone borders. The Matinee Cigars wooden box shows age-appropriate scuffing, scratches, and darkening to the exterior wood (photo 10). The interior lithograph exhibits moderate brown foxing spots and minor staining (photo 8). The yellow interior lining paper is significantly torn and peeling from the wooden walls (photo 7). Small metal hinges show surface oxidation but remain functional (photo 9). The Fun-To-Wash cardboard box has noticeable creasing and crushing to the corners and edges (photo 2). There is light surface soiling and general shelf wear, though the colors remain vivid (photo 4). The Red Turkey Coffee tin is in poor condition with heavy surface rust, oxidation, and pitting across the entire body (photo 5). Graphics are legible but heavily compromised by corrosion, and the surface contains accumulated dust and cobwebs (photo 6).
