Reed & Barton Silverplate Renaissance Pattern Serving Scoop with Bacchus Motif - A large silverplated serving scoop by Reed & Barton featuring the Renaissance pattern. The handle terminal is cast with a grotesque Bacchus or satyr mask surrounded by clusters of grapes and vine leaves. The lower section of the handle displays neoclassical floral swags and foliate motifs set against a textured, engine-turned background. The shovel-shaped bowl features a rounded tip and two symmetrical circular notches at the heel where it meets the stem. An impressed mark on the reverse of the stem includes an anchor symbol followed by the text REED & BARTON and the model number 14. Length: 10.25 inches. The spoon shows moderate to heavy tarnish, particularly concentrated within the deep recesses of the ornate handle decoration (photo 1). The bowl exhibits numerous fine surface scratches and scuffing from past use (photo 2). Minor wear to the silver plating is visible on the high points of the handle and along the interior edges of the bowl (photo 7). The piece remains structurally sound with no evidence of bending, breaks, or professional repairs.
