Bidspirit auction | Chinese Patinated Bronze Flask with

Chinese Patinated Bronze Flask with Dragon and Phoenix Decoration in Shadowbox Frame - A Chinese circular and flattened bronze or copper alloy flask mounted in a wooden shadowbox frame. The vessel features a dark chocolate brown patina with etched gold-toned decoration depicting a dragon and a phoenix in an auspicious pairing. The flask is constructed with a short cylindrical neck, a knurled screw-on closure, and a large D-shaped swing bail handle attached to lugs at the shoulders. The item is displayed against a light-colored textile ground within a dark-finished wooden frame featuring a double-layered black mat. No maker marks, signatures, or reign marks are visible on the front or sides of the flask; the reverse of the vessel is obscured by the mounting within the frame. The back of the shadowbox frame has a black rectangular adhesive panel and a hanging wire, but no manufacturer labels or markings are legible (photo 5). Frame measures 12 inches by 12 inches. Flask diameter: 3.5 inches. Flask total length including handle: 5 inches. The metal flask exhibits overall surface wear consistent with age, including oxidation, fine surface scratches, and unevenness in the patina (photo 1). The gold-toned etched decoration shows rubbing and loss of detail, particularly on the lower phoenix figure (photo 3). The shadowbox frame displays minor scuffs and finish loss along the edges (photo 2). The interior glass and the backboard of the frame are heavily soiled with accumulated dust and debris (photo 5).
