Bidspirit auction | Vintage Hand-Knotted Tekke Turkoman Wool

Vintage Hand-Knotted Tekke Turkoman Wool Rug - A hand-knotted Turkoman rug featuring a traditional Tekke Bokhara design. The central field is decorated with four vertical columns of eight primary octagonal guls, interspersed with secondary cruciform motifs. The field is enclosed by multiple geometric borders, including a wide main border of repeating stylized motifs and several narrow guard borders featuring diamond and S-shaped patterns. The color palette consists of a deep madder-red ground with navy blue, orange, and cream accents. The construction consists of a hand-spun wool pile on a cotton foundation. Length: 64 inches (excluding fringe) Width: 42 inches. The rug is in well-used condition with significant pile wear throughout the central field and borders, leaving the white cotton foundation visible in multiple areas. There is evidence of color run or staining, particularly in the cream-colored sections of the field, along with general surface soiling. The cotton fringe is uneven, shows heavy wear, and has partial loss. The side selvages are frayed with visible wear to the overcasting. The rug exhibits an overall heavy patina consistent with age and high-traffic use.
