Bidspirit auction | Antique Navajo Eye Dazzler Wool
Antique Navajo Eye Dazzler Wool Rug - This hand-woven Navajo rug features a classic eye-dazzler design, characterized by repeating horizontal rows of serrated diamonds. The rug is constructed using a weft-faced tapestry weave on a vertical loom. The color palette includes natural cream, natural dark brown, natural grey, and a vibrant red, likely produced with early synthetic dyes. The central field is framed by a solid dark brown border. The design exhibits the rhythmic, vibrating visual effect typical of the late 19th-century Transitional and Germantown weaving periods. Dimensions: 57.5 inches (L) x 39.5 inches (W). The rug is in fair to good antique condition. A significant dark brown repair patch is located along one of the long edges. There is visible fraying, small tears, and loss of material along the edges and at the corners. The cream-colored sections show scattered light staining and discoloration. Signs of general age-related wear are present, including minor thinning of the wool and loose yarns.
