A Set of McLoughlin Bros. 9th Regt. National Guards Mechanical Paper Soldiers with Box Lid - This set of mechanical paper soldiers was manufactured by McLoughlin Bros. of New York. The toy features the 9th Regiment National Guard rendered in detailed chromolithography on paper, with figures mounted onto small wooden blocks. The collection includes paper figures, consisting of infantrymen, a drummer, and a fifer. The set includes a circular cardboard carousel-style base designed to rotate, allowing the soldiers to be paraded in a circle around a central pivot point. The original illustrated cardboard box lid is included, which features printed text identifying the regiment and the manufacturer. The base tray is finished with a red textured paper rim. Width: 6 inches. The set shows significant signs of age and play wear. The box lid exhibits fraying and rounding at the corners, surface scuffs, foxing, and staining throughout. The base tray has significant damage to the red paper rim, which is torn and peeling away from the cardboard. The paper figures show edge wear and light creasing. One soldier is missing its head, and another consists of a partial torso without a base. Several soldiers have become detached from the rotating mechanism and stand loosely on their blocks.
