Gibson L-00 Acoustic Guitar in Black Finish with Factory Order Number 978 1 - This is a small-bodied acoustic guitar featuring a 14-fret neck join, constructed with a spruce top and mahogany back and sides. The instrument is finished in a black nitrocellulose lacquer with a single-ply cream binding along the top edge. A gold-colored script Gibson logo is applied to the face of the headstock. The mahogany neck is fitted with a rosewood fingerboard containing pearloid dot inlays. The hardware includes original-style three-on-a-plate open-gear tuning machines with cream plastic buttons. A factory order number is stamped in black ink on the internal neck block reading 978 1. The guitar features a non-original rectangular wooden bridge that has been bolted to the soundboard with two visible flat-head screws. A non-original yellow plastic pickguard is attached to the top. The interior construction shows a wooden center strip and X-bracing visible through the soundhole. The instrument is accompanied by a vintage-style chipboard hardshell case featuring a black embossed alligator pattern exterior and a blue fabric-lined interior. The instrument shows heavy wear and significant finish checking across the body, neck, and headstock (photos 1, 16, and 17). Numerous scratches, dings, and localized finish losses are present, notably on the back and around the neck heel (photos 5, 23, and 24). The bridge is a non-original, roughly carved wooden replacement that has been bolted through the top with two visible screws (photos 14 and 20). The pickguard is a bright yellow plastic replacement (photo 20). Only one string is currently present on the instrument (photo 1). The frets exhibit significant wear and green oxidation (photo 19). The nut appears to be a replacement with irregular slotting (photo 3). The case shows moderate exterior scuffing and edge wear (photos 28 and 29).
