Two 19th Century French Gilt Metal Figural Mantel Clocks - This lot comprises two nineteenth-century French-style figural mantel clocks. Both items are constructed from gilt cast metal and exhibit damage. The first clock features a pastoral scene with two figures, a man with a shovel and a woman holding a basket, situated atop a Rococo-style base decorated with scrollwork and grape clusters. It contains a circular white enamel dial with black Roman numerals. The mechanical eight-day movement includes a bell strike and is stamped on the rear plate with the numerals 9 9 1 and an illegible circular maker mark. The second clock features a neoclassical architectural base with a standing winged female figure holding a staff and a scroll. The dial is white enamel with blue Roman numerals. The rear movement plate is stamped with the letter L over 1 5 8 4, and a vertical stamp reading 5 1 1 1 0. Clock 1 Height: 11.75 inches Clock 2 Height: 13.25 inches. Both clocks are in distressed condition with notable damage and wear. Clock one has significant casting loss and breakage to the central decorative element between the figures, as well as damage to the back of the male figure. Clock two features a heavily cracked enamel dial with spiderweb hairlines across the surface. It also has a detached floral element and a large break to the rear right foot of the base; these detached pieces are present. Both clocks show general oxidation, darkening, and wear to the gilt finish. The mechanical working status of both movements is unknown, though one pendulum is present but detached.
