Antique Willington Glass Co GII-64 Eagle Liberty Historical Flask Deep Olive Amber - An antique mold-blown historical glass flask categorized as the McKearin GII-64 pattern. This piece was produced by the Willington Glass Company of West Willington, Connecticut, active approximately 1845 to 1860. The flask is composed of heavy, thick glass in a deep olive-amber color, often called black glass due to its near-opaque appearance in reflected light, though it reveals a vibrant translucent green when backlit. The flask is formed in an oval chestnut shape with a characteristic whittled surface texture and numerous small seed bubbles throughout the glass. The obverse features a central embossed American eagle with its head turned to the left and a shield on its breast, perched on a rocky base with the word LIBERTY arched above. The reverse displays four lines of embossed text: WILLINGTON (arched), GLASS, CO, and CONN. The neck ends in a crudely sheared and fire-polished lip. The base features a sharp and prominent open pontil scar, indicative of mid-19th-century blowpipe detachment. Height: 7 1/4 inches. The flask is in excellent antique condition with no cracks, chips, or breaks. The lip and base show manufacturing-related crudeness typical of the period. There is minor surface shelf wear to the base and the high points of the embossed lettering. The glass is clear and lacks any significant internal haze or sickness.
