A Collection of Confederate States of America 1864 One Thousand Dollar Loan Bonds - This collection consists of several Confederate States of America (CSA) interest-bearing loan bonds, including examples from both the First Series and the second series. The primary document is a one thousand dollar bond authorized by Section 6 of the Act of Congress on February 17, 1864. This specimen, numbered 7500, was issued in Richmond on March 1, 1864, and offers a six percent annual interest rate. The document features an ornate central vignette of the equestrian statue of George Washington, flanked by side vignettes of Justice and Liberty. The lower-left margin is marked Engraved by J. Archer Richmond VA and the lower-right margin is marked Printed by Evans and Cogswell Columbia SC. The primary bond is hand-signed by C. A. Rose as Register of the Treasury and includes a large grid of original, unclipped thirty-dollar interest coupons bearing the printed signature of Robert Tyler. The documents are printed on cream-colored paper with a light pinkish tint and decorative scrollwork. Width: 26.75 inches Height: 17.5 inches. The documents show significant horizontal and vertical storage folds and scattered foxing throughout. There is visible staining and discoloration, particularly along the fold lines and margins. Minor edge tears are present, though the primary bond and coupons remain largely intact.
