A Pair of 1863 Confederate States of America $500 Loan Bonds with Unclipped Coupons - A pair of historical Confederate States of America $500 loan bonds issued under the Act of Congress dated February 20, 1863. Each document is printed in black ink on off-white paper and features a central oval vignette portrait of Christopher Memminger, flanked by large 500 numerals. Additional vignettes depict a seated female figure representing Liberty and a central agricultural harvest scene. Both certificates bear the handwritten serial number 2932 and are dated March 2, 1863. The documents include the handwritten signatures of Ro. Tyler as Register of the Treasury and an additional entry signature appearing to be J. C. Tyler. The printer mark at the bottom right margin reads Evans and Cogswell Lith. Columbia, S.C. Each bond remains complete with eight unclipped $20 interest coupons attached at the bottom, with maturity dates ranging from January 1, 1864, to July 1, 1867. Height: 18 inches Width: 14 inches. The paper shows prominent horizontal and vertical fold lines with associated creasing and minor separation at the fold intersections. Generalized toning and light foxing are visible across the surface consistent with age. There are small tears and fraying along the outer margins. All interest coupons are present and unclipped.
