John White of Winterbourne Eight Day Longcase Clock Dial and Movement - This lot features a late 18th to early 19th century longcase clock dial and movement signed Jn White Winter in cursive script below the center arbor. The arched iron dial is japanned and decorated with a hand-painted hunting scene in the arch depicting a gentleman in a green coat and top hat with a shotgun and two sporting dogs. The four corner spandrels contain individual landscape paintings featuring waterfalls and trees. The dial displays Roman numeral hour markers with an outer minute track, a subsidiary seconds dial at the 12 o'clock position, and a calendar sub-dial at the 6 o'clock position. It retains pierced and scrolled brass hour and minute hands along with steel subsidiary hands. The mechanical, weight-driven eight-day movement is constructed with brass plates and four turned pillars. The assembly includes a striking train for the hours on a top-mounted bell. The movement is gut-line driven on wooden barrels and includes two brass pulleys. The wooden case, weights, and pendulum are not included. The dial is in poor condition, exhibiting significant bubbling, pitting, and craquelure of the paint across the entire surface. There are multiple chips and areas of paint loss, most notably around the winding arbors and the center. The painted decorative scenes are worn and faded. The brass movement is heavily oxidized and shows a significant accumulation of dust, grime, and cobwebs. The gut lines appear aged and brittle. The movement is untested and sold as-is for restoration or parts.
