Antique C. F. Weber and Co. 12-Inch Terrestrial Globe on Cast Iron Claw Foot Stand - An antique 12-inch terrestrial globe manufactured by C. F. Weber and Co. of Chicago, Illinois. The globe is constructed of printed paper gores over a plaster or papier-mache orb, mounted within a full-circle metal meridian ring graduated in degrees. The cartography includes detailed geographic labels and scientific data such as isothermal lines for January and July. The circular cartouche is decorated with scrollwork and reads: 12 INCH / GLOBE / C. F. Weber and Co. / Successors to / A. H. ANDREWS and CO. / CHICAGO. The globe is supported by a Victorian-style ornate cast-iron tripod base featuring a fluted central pedestal and three legs decorated with acanthus leaf motifs terminating in stylized claw feet. Globe Diameter: 12 inches Overall Height: Approximately 20 inches. The globe is in as-found antique condition with significant wear and damage. The paper surface shows heavy overall yellowing, darkening of the varnish, and scattered white spots throughout. A major deep linear gouge or burn mark approximately 3 to 4 inches in length is present across the Northeast Asia and Russia region. There are several cracks, bubbles, and small areas of surface loss, particularly along the gore seams in the Pacific region. The cast-iron base and metal meridian ring exhibit a heavy darkened patina with surface oxidation and dust accumulation.
