A Pair of Large Continental Polychrome Porcelain Musician Figurines - A matching pair of monumental-sized glazed porcelain figurines depicting eighteenth-century musicians in the Rococo style. The male figure is depicted in a tricorn hat, a tan patterned coat with intricate scrollwork, and a pink sash, playing a tambourine. The female figure is dressed in a blue bodice and a skirt decorated with floral patterns and a transfer-printed architectural landscape scene, playing a guitar. Both figures are positioned on elaborate, rocky bases encrusted with applied porcelain flowers and foliate scrollwork. The underside of the male figure base features an incised letter C and the model number 2218. The underside of the female figure base contains a green underglaze cross-hatch or hash mark consisting of parallel horizontal lines crossed by parallel vertical lines. Height: 26.5 - 27 inches. The figurines are in generally good condition. There are minor, typical losses and small chips to the delicate edges of the applied porcelain petals and leaves on the bases and attire. Light surface dust has accumulated in the recessed areas of the molding. Minor firing specks and stray pigment consistent with the manufacturing process are visible. The extended limbs and musical instruments appear intact with no evidence of major breakage or professional restoration.
