North American Late Archaic Wadlow Chert Blade - This large prehistoric bifacial stone blade is identified as a Wadlow type, characteristic of the Late Archaic to Early Woodland periods in North America, particularly associated with the Red Ocher culture of the Midwestern United States. The artifact is crafted from heat-treated chert, likely Burlington chert, which exhibits variegated pinkish and reddish hues. The blade features broad percussion flaking across its faces with fine, controlled pressure retouch along the margins. It has a thin, lenticular cross-section and a lanceolate form. A small, circular neon green adhesive sticker is present on one side with the handwritten identification Wadlow. Length: Approximately 7.5 inches Width: Approximately 2 inches at the widest point. The artifact is in excellent condition. It exhibits a well-developed aged patina across both faces. There are minor, ancient nicks along the margins consistent with its age and use. A modern adhesive label is present on one face. There is no evidence of modern breakage, restoration, or repair.
