Large Adena Culture Waubesa Serrated Chert Projectile Point - This lithic artifact is a large, stemmed projectile point or knife of the Adena culture, dating from the North American Early to Middle Woodland period. It is a Waubesa type point characterized by a long, lanceolate blade with prominent serrated edges and a contracting stem often referred to as a beaver tail. The specimen is bifacially worked from light grayish-beige chert featuring darker mottling and surface patination. The blade exhibits primary percussion flaking and secondary pressure flaking along the margins. A yellow paper label is adhered to one face with handwritten text Adena and WAubesa. Faint white ink characters are visible near the label, representing a catalog number beginning with the digits 33. Total length: 7.25 inches Width at shoulders: 1.25 inches. The artifact is in excellent archaeological condition and appears complete. The tip, shoulders, and stem are fully intact with no evidence of modern repairs, breaks, or re-chipping. Surface patination and mineralized deposits are visible. A collector label and catalog number are present on one side.
