C. Werner German Butcher Shop Automaton Alarm Clock Does Not Run - This antique German novelty alarm clock was manufactured by C. Werner of Villingen, Germany, and is identified by the distinctive pine branch trademark located on both the dial and the back plate. The clock is constructed of nickel-plated metal and features a mechanical movement that does not run. The paper dial displays a polychrome lithographed scene of a butcher shop featuring a male butcher and a female customer. The butcher's right arm, holding a cleaver, functions as an automaton designed to move in synchronization with the ticking of the clock. The dial is marked with black Roman numerals and includes a small alarm sub-dial with Arabic numerals at the 12 o'clock position. The clock is fitted with blued-steel spade hands and an external nickel-plated bell with a ring handle. The reverse of the clock contains integrated winding keys and regulation markings labeled A, R, and H. The piece stands on two front peg feet and one rear support. Diameter: 5 inches. The clock is in non-functional condition and does not run. The nickel-plated metal case and bell show significant oxidation, surface pitting, and loss of plating throughout. The paper dial exhibits heavy yellowing, foxing, and a visible puncture or tear near the 3 o'clock mark next to the female figure. Accumulated dust and old cobwebs are present on the exterior, particularly around the bell bracket and feet. Winding keys are intact.
