Tuareg Pyrography Decorated Hand Carved Wooden Ladle - This ethnographic hand-carved wooden ladle is a traditional utensil from the Tuareg people of the Sahara Desert region in North Africa. The object is monoxylous, carved from a single piece of light-colored hardwood. It features a circular bowl and a long, flat handle that tapers to a rounded point. The interior of the bowl and the upper surface of the handle are decorated with intricate geometric motifs applied using the pyrography technique. The bowl interior contains several eight-pointed stars and stylized triangular forms with cross-hatched interiors. The handle is divided into distinct rectangular registers featuring lattice patterns, ”X” motifs, and additional star symbols. The convex underside of the bowl and the handle show a smooth, aged patina and evidence of significant domestic use-wear. Bowl diameter: 4 inches Overall length: 14.75 inches. Good ethnographic condition. The piece exhibits signs of age and authentic domestic use, including heavy thinning and abrasion of the wood on the underside of the bowl from repeated contact with vessels. Two small chips are visible on the rim of the bowl. There is minor surface staining and handling wear throughout, consistent with use. No structural cracks or repairs are present.
