A Collection of Victorian Era Tintypes - This collection consists of a large assortment of late 19th-century photographs, primarily featuring tintypes, also known as ferrotypes. The subject matter comprises a variety of Victorian-era studio portraits including men in formal suits, women in elaborate period dresses with bold plaid and striped patterns, infants, and multi-generational family groups. Notable images within the group include a pair of men posed outdoors with a rustic log prop, one holding a fife and the other wearing a tiered fraternal or lodge ribbon, and various sitters posed against painted studio backdrops. The photographs are presented in several formats including loose iron plates, embossed cream and white paper window mounts, and orange card mounts with decorative borders. One mount features handwritten pencil marks reading 3 25, and another includes a handwritten script identifying the subjects as Guy and Edie Ki with the remainder of the surname being illegibly written. The collection shows condition issues consistent with age and handling. Tintypes exhibit surface scratching, minor bends to the metal plates, localized oxidation, and scattered areas of emulsion loss. Paper and card mounts show varying degrees of foxing, toning, edge wear, surface soiling, and occasional tears or clipped corners. One large oval infant tintype has significant surface abrasions.
