Victorian Olive Wood Box with Bird Marquetry and Nice Inscription - This antique oval wooden box is constructed of olive wood and features a lid decorated with a marquetry and penwork scene of two birds perched on a flowering thorny branch. The script inscription Nice. followed by a period is located on the left side of the lid. The box opens on a brass rear hinge to reveal an interior lined with red diamond-tufted satin. Height: 3.5 inches. The item is in fair condition with significant age-related wear. The exterior displays numerous surface scratches, scuffs, and finish loss. A large horizontal crack extends across the length of the wooden base. A portion of the curved base molding is detached. There is a structural split in the wood at the rear hinge area. A small hole on the front panel indicates a missing lock or key element. The interior lining shows light wear and dust accumulation.
