Vintage Marbled Butterscotch Lucite Three-Tier Accordion Handbag - A vintage mid-century three-tier cantilevered handbag featuring an accordion-style mechanical opening. The piece is constructed from marbled butterscotch and amber-toned phenolic resin, often referred to in the vintage market as Catalin or Lucite, characterized by swirls of darker orange-brown throughout the material. The design allows the three tiers to slide outward simultaneously, supported by gold-tone metal linkage bars on each side. The top compartment is fitted with a lid attached by a gold-tone metal piano hinge and secured by a curved resin latch that fastens over two spherical metal knobs. A matching arched resin handle is mounted to the top tier with metal pivot points. The interior of the metal piano hinge is stamped with the mark PAT. PEND. The resin surfaces show light overall wear, including a network of fine superficial scratches and scuffs that are most prevalent on the underside of the base. There is a small pale impact mark or surface blemish on the bottom panel. The interior compartments are generally clean, though some visible adhesive residue and minor oxidation are present around the hinge mounting on the top lid. The gold-tone hardware shows minor tarnishing and finish wear consistent with age. The mechanical cantilever function is in working order.
