San Ildefonso Pueblo Black-on-Black Pottery Jar by Maria Martinez and Santana Roybal Martinez - A miniature black-on-black pottery jar from San Ildefonso Pueblo, New Mexico, produced through a collaboration between Maria Martinez and Santana Roybal Martinez. The vessel features a globular seed jar form with a narrow, unrimmed aperture. The construction is traditional hand-coiled clay with a stone-polished, high-gloss surface. The decorative upper band is painted in a matte mineral slip, depicting a repeating stylized wave or stepped geometric motif. The jar was fired using a reduction technique to achieve the characteristic deep black coloration. The base is hand-incised with the cursive signature Marie + Santana. The interior of the vessel displays the natural, unpolished finish of the fired clay. Diameter: Approximately 2.75 inches Height: Approximately 2 inches. This item is in excellent vintage condition. The stone-polished finish is well-preserved with a deep luster. There are minor surface scuffs and micro-scratches consistent with age and handling. Light shelf wear and minor abrasions are visible on the base. No chips, cracks, hairlines, or professional restorations are detected.
