19th Century Ovoid Red Ware Salt-Glazed Stoneware Jug - This item is an antique ovoid stoneware jug with a salt-glazed finish. The vessel features a two-tone color scheme, with a dark reddish-brown slip applied to the shoulder, neck, and spout, while the lower portion of the body remains a natural buff-to-tan color. The jug has a rounded, tapering form with a small spout and a single applied loop handle. The base is flat and unglazed. There are no visible maker's marks, stamps, or capacity indicators on the body or base. Diameter: 8.5 inches Height: 13 inches. The jug is in good antique condition. It exhibits a prominent circular contact mark, known as a kiln kiss, on the side from the firing process. Several small chips are located around the base rim, and a minor area of glaze loss is present on the upper body. The surface shows typical manufacturing artifacts including minor pocking and glaze crawling. No structural cracks or repairs are noted.
